Supplier Standards — Karee Clothing

Supplier Standards

Karee Clothing Private Limited and its parent company Taro Designs UK Limited expect all suppliers to meet the following standards as a condition of working with us. This applies to fabric suppliers, garment manufacturers, print studios, packaging suppliers, and any other party in our production chain.

1. Labour Standards

Forced and bonded labour: No supplier may use any form of forced, bonded, or involuntary labour. Workers must be free to leave employment without financial penalty or coercion.

Child labour: No supplier may employ anyone below the legal minimum working age as defined by Indian law and the standards of the International Labour Organisation. Where family-based craft production is involved, children must not be involved in production activities during school hours.

Wages: Suppliers must pay wages that meet or exceed the minimum wage prescribed under applicable Indian state law. Wages must be paid on time, in full, without unauthorised deduction.

Working hours: Suppliers must comply with legal working hour limits and provide adequate rest periods. Overtime must be voluntary and compensated at the correct legal rate.

Health and safety: Suppliers must maintain safe working conditions. This includes adequate ventilation, clean facilities, access to drinking water, and fire safety compliance.

Equal treatment: Suppliers must not discriminate in hiring, pay, or treatment on the basis of caste, gender, religion, age, disability, or any other protected characteristic under Indian law.

2. Environmental Standards

Legal compliance: All suppliers must comply with applicable Indian environmental laws and regulations covering water discharge, chemical handling, and waste disposal.

Chemical management: Suppliers must use dyes and chemicals that are safe for workers and do not contaminate local water sources. We require suppliers to be able to name the dye processes used in any fabric supplied to us.

Waste management: Suppliers must handle fabric waste, chemical waste, and packaging waste in accordance with local regulations. We encourage but do not yet mandate zero-landfill practices.

3. Business Ethics

Accurate records: Suppliers must maintain accurate records and be willing to provide documentation of materials, processes, and labour practices upon request.

No corruption: Suppliers must not offer or receive bribes. All business must be conducted through legitimate commercial channels.

Transparency: Suppliers must disclose sub-contracting arrangements. Karee Clothing Private Limited must approve any sub-contracting before it occurs.

4. Monitoring

Karee Clothing Private Limited reserves the right to conduct visits to supplier facilities, request documentation, or commission third-party audits. Non-compliance with these standards may result in termination of the supplier relationship.

Suppliers who identify compliance issues within their own operations are expected to notify Karee Clothing Private Limited promptly. We will work with suppliers to address issues before terminating relationships where there is genuine intent to improve.
